From my first childhood storybook of collected tales, lavishly illustrated with whimsical titles, each tale opening with an embellished initial letter, I have been enamored with the unfolding of stories.
Spanning my earlier work in graphic design to my later focus in illustration, the same process unfolds: exploring details, considering possibilities, imagining an outcome.
Over the course of my career, I have developed branding and print materials for corporate, industrial, institutional, retail and entertainment clients. These, of course, demand best-foot-forward storylines: detail and scope, direction and progress, new horizons and legacy.
In a departure from heroic portrayals, a lengthy association with Pittsburgh Public Theater presented me with new themes and prodded me to find new ways to express them. It was during this engagement over a series of eighteen posters that I honed my style with chalk pastels to render a broader spectrum of characters and motivations— duplicity, delusion, seduction, love, feuds, farce—from playwrights spanning genres across the centuries.
Since then, I’ve painted stylized pastel images for public relations, marketing and fundraising campaigns, labeling, murals, historical fiction and mysteries, interpretive portraits and an adapted Macbeth.
As an honor graduate with a BFA in Communication Arts & Design from Virginia Commonwealth University, I am delighted to be a part of the broad canon of communication arts. I’m fortunate to count talented peers who challenge and inspire me among my friends and I’m grateful to enterprising clients who have engaged me to craft the visual narratives of their various stories.
