TBA Last Week of September: James Silverberg, Washington DC attorney and CEO of ASCRL, presents an important program on aspects of AI and the effects on our industry.
Many details to come, offered as a ZOOM presentation. President James Mellett is setting up this program with Mr. Silverberg.
TBA this fall in late October or mid-November: Aspects of illustration and using photo references are constant topics of discussion and debate in our industry. Set aside time for this program to be presented in person and by Zoom by Former PSI President and current Treasurer Fred Carlson dealing with aspects of "fair use doctrine" and the questions of artistic transformation of one source to another finished artwork. Fred will use the recent Supreme Court decision Goldsmith v Warhol Foundation (the dispute surrounding Lynn Goldsmith's Prince photos and their subsequent use and commercial sale by Andy Warhol and the Warhol Foundation) as a jumping off point to refer to the Justices analysis of "Fair Use Doctrine" regarding using reference. Fred finds the Supreme Court's analysis of the case is a layman's textbook definition of 'fair use' and all illustrators should understand these terms and know what's allowed in current infringement case law. Fred will share the 87-page pdf of the ruling after the program for member reference.
As summer ends, PSI thanks our hosts for the summer socials, President James Mellett (June), Wintis Gibson (WintisArt) (July), and John Blumen (August).
Regular socials resume Tuesday September 12 at J. Gough's 6:30pm.
Please come on out to J. Gough's Tavern in Squirrel Hill, 4213 Murray Avenue, PGH PA 15217, resuming our second Tuesday socials on Tuesday September 12, 2023, and share your current work, have a drink, enjoy some PSI complimentary snacks from the delicious J.
